A Day in the Life of a New York Fashion Week Blogger

Amidst all of the fast paced mania, the NYFW experience is tons of fun. Here’s a look (in pictures) at what my days looked like. Spread out over the course of two days of course!

Taking pics on the patio in between shows. *Smile* or my personal fave: *smize*

Grabbing a Fiji and heading to a show

After the show, realizing I need to reapply my lipstick

An hour to spare? Time to make a quick pitstop to take an outfit post on my way to a show or one of the super cool lounges

Have two hours to spare? Hopping in a pedicab to head over to the Bing Lounge at the Mandarin Oriental

Or not, and deciding to stop at the Allure Lounge to check out the designer of the day or the Artistry Beauty lounge, then grabbing a coffee at Starbucks if the line isn’t a mile long

Last show early in the afternoon? Yay! Time to grab some real food. The mac & cheese at Brooklyn Diner is TO DIE FOR by the way

Forgot to take outfit photos at Lincoln Center? Don’t fret, there’s always time for those with Christine and Kemoy.

But wait, we have to rest our bags down since the theme was Fashion Week: How To Be A Bag Lady

Showing off the accessories

Head back to the tents in the evenings (or the next day) and bump into other bloggers before a show. Hi Andy from Style Scrapbook!

More outfit shots after bumping into Yanil lol

Testing out Danny’s camera with Jessie to get my photo technique down. I think I’m good!

Thomas Levone Show at Bryant Park Hotel

The lovely Monroe secured tickets for a handful of bloggers to attend the Lawrence Blake shows at the Bryant Park Hotel. The Thomas Levone collection was all about drama, full of floor sweeping gowns, attention grabbing shoes, and standout beauty looks. I arrived a few minutes before show time and almost didn’t snag a seat, but managed to plop down next to someone with a decent view (Oops! sorry to whoever it was I had blogging to do). Here are a few snaps from the show:

The designer, Thomas Levone during the final walk.

My favorite was the red gown with the feather trim around the neckline, wow!

Backstage at New York Fashion Week: Blue is the New Black

Two of my favorite looks from Costello via NY Mag

I went backstage at Costello Tagliapietra with Christine and Kristine to capture the details on what went into the hair, makeup, and nail looks for the show. We had the opportunity to chat with Deborah Lippmann (I linked the video in a previous post, but will post again here) about the custom color she created for the show and with Nelson Vercher of Ritz Hazan salons about his inspiration for the hair look.

Deborah Lippmann talking about her Costello custom color and the inspiration behind it:

I love that she spoke about the idea of complementing and not matching. I am all about that in terms of making my fashion choices, but never really think about it when it comes to my nail color choices. Now I do!

Nelson Vercher discussing the hair concept for the show:

The idea of the double roll was completely new to me. The asymmetrical part on wet hair, combined with layered product gave the models such a sleek and polished, yet effortless look. The hair looked amazing on the runway with the clothes.

Are you loving the hair, makeup, and nails at Costello?

NYFW Style Snap

Captured by Dario Calmese for Essence

I figured I’d break up the mountain of show recap posts in my queue with some outfit posts. Wearing a gold and black brocade sweater (as a dress), lingerie slip from Victoria’s Secret (as a dress), suede fringe shoes from Mango.

I’m finally starting to get the feeling back in my toes. Wearing heels everyday, all day is certainly different than walking AND standing in heels everyday, all day. Whew! In any event, that’s how the cookie crumbles. I <3 NYFW.

What’s Hot in Spring Fashion? Pastels!

So NYFW has officially come to a close! How sad?! I’m currently catching up on all of my show notes, photos, and videos, and editing them for the blog! I’m excited to share everything you guys and figured I’d start with one of the highlights of my week:

The Kaelen SS 2012 Presentation was one of my absolute favorites! I covered the show for Tineey and couldn’t be more pleased! The clothing was light and airy AND very wearable. I could see myself in almost every outfit! I loved her use of pastels and neutral colors and the loose fitting, feminine silhouettes. The atmosphere in the room was lively, everyone was good in spirits and buzzing about the collection. Editors from major publications and bloggers alike swooned over the most covetable pieces while sipping on delicious cocktails courtesy of Moonshine. Here’s the video I took, you can see each and every piece and how they move. Every time I watch I fall in love a little more!

Here are my favorite pieces (images from the Kaelen NYC Facebook page):

Loving the inkblot print, it’s a new and fresh look. Also obsessing over the pretty orange color of the cropped tee.

Ashley4Kaelen Trend Report:

  • Colors- nude and neutral hues are in for SS 2012, as are pastels. If you’re loving the green color in the video it’s called Seafoam.
  • Embrace flowy/sheer fabrics
  • Stick with loose fitting, yet feminine silhouettes (ie. not your boyfriend’s jeans or his old baggy sweatshirt!)

Are you loving Kaelen as much as I am??

NYFW iPhone Diary: Days 1-3

Backstage at Costello Tagliapietra at Milk Studios.

Here’s a look at my random snapshots that I managed to take with my iPhone in between the Fashion Week madness. Including my outfits for days two and three, backstage access, models, adventures with Yanil and Christine, and more…

*Yanil covered up her face haha!

Deborah Lippman discussing her inspiration for the nails at Costello (check out the video interview here!)

Bold shades by Tortoise Blonde. I met the founder at the Sally LaPointe show and she was so sweet and charming!

Totally obsessed with this jacket.

Photo from the Allure Lounge, did someone say photo shoot? You don’t have to tell me twice! It’s all about the Zoolander Blue Steel pose. YES!

After 3 full days straight traipsing around the city in uncomfortable heels, my feet were screaming for help. Here’s a tip for all you other fashionistas:

  • Heat a bowl full of the following mixture: 1 cup of water and 1 cup of vinegar
  • Soak 2 towels in the mixture, wring out the excess
  • Wrap 1 towel around each foot, cover with a Ziploc bag
  • Let it sit for 5-10 mins
  • Add ice to the Ziploc
  • Let that sit for 5-10 mins
  • Repeat 2-3 times

This is going to get me through the next few days and of course, stay tuned for more updates!

I’ve added a page on the sidebar that lists my shows during NYFW. When I write show reviews, I’ll add the links to them there as well.

Happy Monday!
