I came across this picture of Angelina Jolie and I couldn’t help but notice it’s striking resemblance to one of the out takes from the Emergy Spring/Summer 2011 Lookbook.

Crazy right?
You may or may not have noticed that the Emergy site is down now, I want to change some things up a bit. But I’ve been swamped lately! It’ll be back up soon.
I mentioned this earlier this week, but I’ll be hitting up my first Art Basel event tonight! With that I’ll leave you with a shake and shimmy.

For this edition of Wear It Your Way, I asked Simone a blogger pal of mine to participate! We met in February and I was glad I had the chance to visit her before she moved to San Francisco. She’s a great girl, who loves supporting great causes and I knew I had to approach her when I started the Wear It Your Way series.
1. Why did you choose the item?
I’ve been excited about Emergy ever since Ashley told me about it. I love how the pieces from this collection are made by Rwandan women; I like all the jewelry I buy to have a story behind it and if it helps empower a community or an artist, that’s even better! It took me forever to decide on a piece… I wanted them all! Ultimately, I chose this necklace because it’s delicate but still makes a statement and because I need more color in my wardrobe.
2. Why did you pair it with this outfit?
During summer, I live in easy basics like this jersey dress with silk paneling from J. Crew. They’re comfortable and keep me cool, but I get bored with my summer wardrobe very quickly. Standout accessories like my Emergy necklace and my electric blue Clare Vivier clutch are a great way to breathe life into a tired wardrobe, and I like the way the green of the necklace pops against all the neutrals in my outfit. The clutch is kind of difficult to pair with other accessories, so I needed jewelry that would work with it rather than fight against it. This necklace does the trick!
3. Describe your style:
My style is very eclectic; I’ll wear a fluffy tulle skirt and pearls one day and a ratty t-shirt with skinny jeans, a giant scarf and a cashmere boyfriend cardigan the next. As a young professional fresh out of college, my clothing budget is pretty tiny; I need to get a lot of mileage out of my clothes. This means that I wear a lot of neutrals and use my accessories to make my outfits interesting. As I mentioned in the first question, I like my jewelry to tell a story or have meaning behind it. I get a lot of my jewelry when I travel or from companies like Emergy that work with artisans and smaller designers. I also like to wear a lot of my mom’s old jewelry. She was a kind of a hippie in the 70’s and her style is still very bohemian, so she has a lot of great pieces. Since I moved from New York back to the Bay Area, I’ve really embraced that sort of easy California style that is chic, but casual and not super trendy.
How adorable is Simone’s puppy, Olive???

This week’s Wear It Your Way post is featuring Kristy of Full Time Fabulous. I met Kristy last year at New York Fashion Week, when she gave me the chance to accompany her to the Monique Lhuillier show. She was so sweet and gracious and at the time, I was telling her my plans for Emergy. I knew I had to include her in the WIYW series when Emergy came to fruition. Kristy took the Emergy arm bands on vacation with her to Ixtapa, Mexico and the result was this fun shoot! No text necessary, just enjoy the images :-)

For this edition of Wear It Your Way, I’m profiling Madison of Ladyofashion. Madison and I became blogger/twitter friends recently and I admire her for always taking risks, loving vintage, and being fun and funky. I sent her two necklaces to play with and here’s how she styled the items and why!
Why did you choose the item?
Here’s the funny thing, I admired many of the accessories from Emergy, but my favourite item (yellow paper necklace) was sold out, so I asked Ashley to surprise me with her choice. She chose two beautiful pieces for me. I was completely enamored when I opened the package because at first glance you can see the detailing of each bead, and also charmed by the length of the necklaces.
Why did you pair it with this outfit?
Lately, my wardrobe has been solely defined by my location not mood, or anything else, currently I am away on a semi-holiday in very humid climate. I adore strapless garments in this type of weather. I chose this outfit because for my style it compliments the accessories, with hues of the sun and nature joined in one look.
I love the colour yellow as well as the leave-greens and branch-like browns in both necklaces. The ways that I chose to wear these beads represents my style- (I have an endless passion for creating different ways to wear most items in my closet.) Here, I wear the beads as necklaces, a belt, headband, and an extended-pendant style.
Describe your personal style.
Progressive vintage with an artistic edge. My style is quite eclectic actually, but always grounded by romantic, vintage, and also contemporary elements. P.S.
SPOTTED: Kristy on vacation in Ixtapa sporting Emergy goodies. More photos to come…

For this edition of Wear It Your Way, I’m featuring Jamillah of Made To Travel. Jamillah and I have become fast friends in the blogging world and I’m ecstatic to have her participate in the WIYW Series!

Why did you choose the item?
I chose this necklace because I looooooved the colors. The browns and greens come off really neutral for me so this necklace goes with tons of things in my closet BUT! since it’s layered and nice and long it’s a necklace with a lot of interest that still draws attention. P.S The necklace is goooorgeous and fantastic to wear! I love the shapes of the beading made of recycled paper and typically I stay away from necklaces in the summer because it’s just so hot and humid in NY but this guy was incredibly comfortable to wear and light as a feather. I would totally rock it all year round!
Why did you pair it with this outfit?
At first I had on something completely different! I had paired the Emergy necklace with a maroon translucent maxi that really spoke to the earthy browns and greens in the necklace. Then I thought, while pretty it didn’t make the colors really come to life. I ultimately picked this blue tunic from Zara’s (on sale right now!) which I think comes from a different color wheel. The Zara tunic is a really modern and bright blue and for me the juxtaposition with the earthy and grittier neutral tones in the necklace really made both color stories sing. Um, can I talk about my shoes?!?!?!? They are DKNY thrifted from Buffalo Exchange…soooooo comfortable! Probably my favorite thrifted score of this summer.
Describe your personal style.
I would say my style is really easy but with a dash of sexy, and an urban edge. Funny because I wouldn’t really describe myself as sexy, but I think easy pieces that are off the shoulder or loose pieces like this tunic that have a shorter hemline all fit into what I think is sexy clothing.

Recently, I asked a handful of bloggers to pick their favorite Emergy piece and style it their own way. I was so used to looking at the Emergy pieces and envisioning how I’d style them, then I realized it’d be cool to see how bloggers with completely different sense of styles would wear each piece. I’ll be dedicating posts to 1-2 bloggers as the photos come in. First up are Rocquelle of Consider Me Lovely and Kara of Sprinkles in Springs! I asked each of them to give us the scoop on why they picked the piece of jewelry they did, their outfits, and their personal style.

Why did you choose the item?
After learning the Gold and Green Paper Bead and Cloth Necklace was no longer available, I went with the Banana Chord and Cloth Bangles because I love how the colorful fabric is mixed with the banana chord. The banana chord is very neutral in color, but the fabric adds a lovely pop of color(s), which I LOVE!
Why did you pair it with this outfit?
The great thing about the neutral with a pop of color concept of the bangles means that they can be worn with just about anything. I wore this outfit to a church function a few weeks ago and piled lots of bangles on with it, so when the bangles arrived from Emergy, I instantly thought of this outfit! The pops of color from the bangles add so much to this rather neutral outfit of a vintage Escada blouse, Gap jeans, Jessica Simpson shoes, and a mix of vintage and modern jewelry.
Describe your personal style.
My personal style is eclectic and feminine with a bit of edge. I am the ultimate girly girl and am most comfortable in a midi skirt and a great pair of heels or jeans and a vintage blouse.

Why did you choose the item?
There’s one photo on the Emergy site where the model is wearing two of the green versions of the necklace I borrowed. I loved the way it looked layered (even though I was only borrowing one item). I hardly ever wear long necklaces (even though I buy them fully meaning to), so I took this as a styling challenge.
Why did you pair it with this outfit?
I’ve been wanting to do some kind of country-inspired outfit post for a while. Everything lined up perfectly: I recently found inspiration from a J Brand ad (which is hanging on my wall), I borrowed the necklace (which totally went with the outfit I was inspired to recreate), and I had a trip planned to go see my family- who lives in the country. Can you say meant to be?
Describe your personal style.
I’ve described it like this before, which I think sums it up perfectly: colorful, minimal, comfortable, with a dash of edge.
