DIY: All That Glitters…

I’ve gotten a few inquiries about how I DIY’d my fuschia pumps. I already did the DIY, so I can’t exactly walk you through it step by step, but I’ll show you what you need and a close up of all the places (on the shoe) I covered with fabulosity.

I was inspired by A Pair and A Spare’s Miu Miu glitter post but knew I didn’t want to cover my entire shoe in glitter. So I picked a pair with a decent sized platform and went for it. I also think it’d look awesome on a nicely shaped heel because we all know I’m so into DIY’ing heels of shoes.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 Bottle of Elmer’s glue
  • 1 container of extra fine glitter (it’s important to use extra fine, because the bigger flakes look…well, cheap. This bottle of Recollections glitter was very reasonably priced at $3.99)
  • A paintbrush (not pictured, but almost any paintbrush will do)
  • A container for the glue/glitter mixture (not pictured)

From there on, it’s really simple as pie!

I mixed about half of the glitter and a full bottle (1.25 FL oz) of glue. This will all depend on how much of the shoe you want to cover, of course. Then I took my paintbrush and went to work. The good part about working with glue and glitter is that you can sprinkle the glitter you didn’t use for the mixture directly on top of the spots you painted to fill in any gaps (and it sticks! WOOP!). That saved me from having to do another coat. Wait for it to dry, I’d let them sit overnight just in case, then use hairspray (extra hold) to seal the glitter. I used Tresemme Holding Spray and none of it has flaked off! The entire project minus drying time took a total of 30 mins max. Here’s the outcome!

I’ve gotten a slew of compliments on them. I would wear them all the time but these shoes hurt my feet. Woops! At least they’re super mega pretty to look at now. Bling!

I posted this photo before, but here I am in the shoes:

Voila!
